Consequences of Sleep Deprivation for some?

Consequences of Sleep Deprivation for some?

1. A man dashes into the A&E dept. and yells . . 'My wife's going to have her baby in the taxi'.

I grabbed my stuff, rushed out to the taxi, lifted the lady's dress and began to take off her underwear. Suddenly after protests from the lady I noticed that there were several taxis - - - and I was in the wrong one.

2. At the beginning of my shift, I placed a stethoscope on an elderly and slightly deaf female patient's anterior chest wall.
'Big breaths,'. I instructed.

'Yes, they used to be,'. . . replied the patient..

3 One day I had to be the bearer of bad news when I told a wife that her husband had died of a massive myocardial infarct. Not more than five minutes later, I heard her on her mobile phone reporting to the rest of the family that he had died of a
'massive internal fart.'

Submitted by Dr. Susan Steinberg Royal London Hosp.

4. During a patient's two week follow-up appointment, he told me that he was having trouble with one of his medications.
'Which one ?'. . .. I asked.

'The patch; the Nurse told me to put on a new one every six hours and now I'm running out of places to put it!'

I had him quickly undress and discovered what I hoped I wouldn't see. Yes, the man had over fifty patches on his body!
Now, the instructions includes removal of the old patch before applying a new one.

5. While acquainting myself with a new elderly patient, I asked 'How long have you been bedridden?'
After a look of complete confusion she answered .'Why, not for about twenty years - when my husband was still alive.'

Submitted by Dr. Steven Swanson- Maidenhead Royal Kent

6. I was performing rounds at the hospital one morning and while checking up on a man I asked . . ...' So how was your breakfast this morning?'

'It's very good except for the Kentucky Jelly. I can't seem to get used to the taste.'. . Bob replied.

I then asked to see the jelly and Bob produced a foil packet labelled 'KY Jelly.'

Submitted by Dr. Leonard J. Brandon . Bristol Infirmary.

7. A nurse was on duty in the A&E when a young woman with purple hair styled into a punk rocker Mohawk, sporting a variety of tattoos, and wearing strange clothing, entered . . It was quickly determined that the patient had acute appendicitis, so she was scheduled for an immediate operation..
When she was completely disrobed on the operating table, the staff noticed that her pubic hair had been dyed green, and above it there was a tattoo that read . .'Keep off the grass'

Once the surgery was completed, the surgeon wrote a short note on the patient's dressing, which read 'Sorry . . . had to mow the lawn.'

Tan Ej

Tan Ej

Went to Aryan's place last night for his party. Was one of the first ones there, apart from Jaws. Haha funniest thing; when Jaws said he was going to meet me at the Shell station opposite the toll, I immediately thought the one on the way to BJ. So I went there and was waiting and he called and we just couldn't find each other! Then after awhile it clicked with me that he was at the station really super near my house. Haha SO FAIL. Then I followed his car, and thought that there was something wrong with his lights. But realized that there was nothing wrong just because they were on. But they were just so bright.... Then I noticed his brake lights were constantly on. Reminds me of Iven, since he drives with both his feet. His left foot on the brake and his right foot on the accelerator pedal. Killing his brakes so badly man!

Once we got there, coincidentally met with Aryan at his front door, went in. Just made small talk. The rest of the people came, including Lisa and Joel and Ash! I didn't want to drink so much because I was supposed to be driving back to Lisa's house. so I was just practically drinking coke, hehe. One of the funniest parts of the game was seriously when a rule was made: you have to end all of your sentences with 'up my ass'.

hahaha so as the game progressed, we said some pretty radical things!

"It's your turn up my ass."
"I'm going to go pee up my ass."
"Can we do the waterfall up my ass?"
"Jaws needs to be more hardcore up my ass!" That guy who made that rule is really really hilarious. And also sleeps with his eyes half open hehe! And apparently he is always sleeping at Aryan's house.

Also, when he got the question card, one of the questions he asked was "When you brushed your teeth this morning.. [something something I can't remember], was there pubic hair?" Haha what the hell, and most of us laughed and the guy he asked the question to was seriously STUMPED. Lol.

then we had to rhyme Orange with things. Orange/Strange? do they rhyme? I actually think not so now, because of the different syllables. That is such a weird word, 'syllable'. Haha. Anyway then at one point, Aryan said something like this:

"Why don't you just finger yourself and then smell it?" - LMAO, RANDOMEST SHIT EVER.

Got really sleepy at one point and just kept falling asleep, then eventually went upstairs. Jaws joined me after awhile, and I was actually still half-asleep and then I asked him totally randomly, "so then did you park inside?" HAHA it's cause I got it in my head that he was in Amcorp Mall and he was deciding whether to park in the carpark or on the side of the road. Rofl like how does that happen anyway, right??

Oh and first time ever, I was sleep talking. I actually fell asleep and my mouth was still moving and then it just suddenly stopped. Then I woke up straight after and was like, holy shit cool!! I just sleep talked! NO idea what I was saying though.

Okay anyway Owen just called and asked me to go pick him up from Nick Fu's house. Nick Fu is tall and really shy.

Plans for today is to watch a movie with Jia Shen, then drive to Canyon PB and meet Lele and Azzy. Test drive the mazda 2 and then at night meet up with Daniel Wong to have dinner and watch a movie. Perhaps join Lisa and Hilmi at Hartamas to watch the game tonight?

Exams are over!

Exams are over!

Exams are now done, and we all more or less did the best we could. All the smarties got less than 10 right, which would be an A i think!

After exams I have just been hanging out like mad. It is not even funny. Yesterday night was the first night I stayed at home.

Today I went for paintball at Tanamera which is at the outskirts of Sg Buloh. Went with Azzy, Andrew and Jia shen and my bro and his friends. Played 3 games only. First one was with all of us - and my team won! Haha but that's only because it was 3 vs 8 lol.. Andrew, Azzy and Jia shen were in the same team. Andrew's marker sounds like it could go crazy anytime and just seriously rape you. I got shot more than 5 times, got a bruise around my carpal area ehehe, one on my upper arm, one on my right calf, and one on my back. Not so shabby.. Except I would definitely not be surprised if I get dengue!!

There were SHITLOADS of mosquitoes. eeeeeeks. was really fun hanging out with Azzy again although he was really really annoying and tried to trip me. eheheeeeeeeeeeeeee i'm just kidding.

am going for steamboat dinner now :) with parents, Owen and Nick Fuuuuuu.

My adorable (slightly obese) hamsters!

I am currently upset because I can't find out where the comments to the posts are - am not able to load them. Blaaahh.

This is a picture of my hamsters (2/3):

The one on the left is called Fanatasie. All 3 of them are females. About 6 months old already! Wow time has really flown by. It just seems like a while back when I got them. She's really tame, Fantasie is. And a little fat. Okay fineee more than a little. She used to be much darker though, but now she's actually changed to be so much lighter! It's insane. She's practically white. And actually getting whiter as time goes by.

The other, skinnier one, is Impromptu. She's actually the odd one out, because she's the last one I picked out, and also from a different cage. Generally very nice, super active. She's quite the tomboy. And eats like a pig. So does Fantasie, but that kind of goes without saying eheheh.

Didn't manage to catch a picture of InCminor, but that's because she's really shy. I always bathe her the last because she hides in that freaking house of hers and barely ever comes out. Well she does come out, but not when my fingers are inside the cage. Can't believe she's still scared of me! Once I get a picture of her, (she's the one I got from the same cage as Fantasie), I shall upload it.

The only time I was bitten by any one of them was when i just kind of stuck my finger inbetween the cage bars. Mind you, this was when I first got them so I was just kind of testing the waters. Impromptu bit me. I bled a little. WELL definitely not as bad as Lisa's bite. Holy crap. I think it was either Psycho or Oreo who bit her. All right I'm pretty sure it was Psycho. He's seriously insane. His full name should be Psycho Waytooviril Insane. I really hope Tofu isn't pregnant again. Losing all your kids within a week is mortifying! (Unless she ate them, which she might have.)

Medicine is pretty tough; that's about the first thing I've ever said about it.

Dreams

Dreams

I had a really awesome dream last night. Kind of dreamed that I was chosen to be an ambassador for the UK, along with my friend. It was a massively big deal too. I found out on the Internet haha. I walked outside of my house in a kind of daze, and found 2 shiny black SUVs waiting outside. So I got in one and it drove me all the way to the UK.

So cool. Then I got to meet with the Queen in Buckingham Palace. Such a massively beautiful place. And then there were some pretty scandalous things that happened involving the Princess and my driver and this gay guy, but you know I'm not going to elaborate. It was so confusing and complex. I don't understand why the Princess kept pretending to be with the other guy when she and the driver were obviously sooo in love. Hmm I wish I dream about more significantly important things other than love and all that rubbish.

Dreaming has been around of centuries and centuries; as long as humans have been around I'm pretty sure we've been dreaming. Some have more vivid dreams than others, and some simply don't dream. Personally, I dream quite often. I've had up to 4 or 5 dreams at night that I can remember in the morning. And sometimes the dreams really do affect my mood. I can wake up all happy and beaming, or be all upset and emo as hell. Why do we dream?

I would like to find out one day. A long time ago, I was reading about this technique that people would use to remember their dreams and are basically aware that they are dreaming while they are dreaming.

And then there's Sleep Paralysis. I think it's really creepy, especially the image depicted. Ehehe anyway that might be just one of my worst fears - waking up to find out that I'm paralyzed and also that there're a bunch of guys dressed in black cloaks standing around my bed. Like whaaaa-?! Well generally I'm just scared of all those ghosty stuffs.. Yeesh :(

...

But you know, just cause I'm off MSN doesn't mean I'm not online...

Consequences of Procrastination

Consequences of Procrastination

Just got back from the Father's Day dinner a while ago. Had steamboat at this place called Damansara Village, which is near my ex's place. He's going to Aus to see his gf on Sunday... Yeesh the world is just a big place of upset. Including the part where there were a bunch of pitiful fish that were being caught and put back into the little pond by a bunch of kids.

The little pond that kids were scooping out innocent fishies from. Kind of reminds me of that time when we were still living in HK, and we got about 12 fish. That night I stayed over at my friend's house. When I came home, the entire fishbowl was gone. So I asked my parents what had happened to it. Turns out my brother (who was like 3 at the time) had spent the whole night playing with them, scooping them and all that. Must have put them under too much stress and they died.

Momma chickens should tell their chicks, "This is what'll happen to you if you're bad!"

Balloon lady. She just kept going, and wouldn't stop... The balloons got better and better though!

Also, before I went out for steamboat, I was online and looked at this website: http://www.pysih.com

It is mad.

Ate so much food that I don't remember half of it. It's like I blacked out or something? Too much food and my brain wanted to block it out.

Ps. I've only done 2 sets of notes today.

Pretty interesting medical diseases

Pretty Interesting Medical Diseases

http://top-10-list.org/2009/10/09/most-bizarre-medical-anomalies/

http://thehumanmarvels.com/?p=114

Also, Lakshmi, who was coincidentally born on the day when they were celebrating Vishnu. Her headless twin was born attached to her, and she has 4 limbs!

And then there was baby Lali. There was a lot of news on her, as she was born sometime last year I think. Or the year before that. She has a rare disease called Craniofacial Duplication. Apparently all 4 of her eyes blink at the same time. I wonder if she's like two different people or something. Aha no I doubt it.

Turns out that both of them were born in the same village in India. What are they feeding the pregger mothers there?!

And a case of Fetus in Fetu, 1 year old girl from China who was abandoned when she was 3 days old. Her twin was growing in her.

Still, I think the worst is Harlequin Type Ichthyosis! It's actually really disturbing... and something to do with the hardening of the skin. The skin hardens in diamond shapes or something, and the eyes and lips are deformed. It's hard for the baby to breathe because of the hardened skin, as the skin cannot move out as much as it's supposed to during inhalation. So sad.

Progeria is worth noting. There's a video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8D4S3pDjPiU
She is so sweet and strong.

Also check this out: http://www.news.com.au/pictures/gallery-e6frflv9-1111119834908?page=1

There is another disease that I was reading about in my Embryology book. I can't really remember what it was called, but it's when you have twins. There is a really really really low survival rate apparently. What basically happens is that one twin is much much smaller than the other twin because there is something wrong with the blood supply to both of them.

House shopping

House Shopping

I just spent the whole day looking for house to rent with my parents. Just sat in the car the whole time (we didn't even view any of the houses), and tried studying. Such a bad tactic! I really would have gotten so much more done if I had gone to McD or something. Only managed to get 2 sets of notes done... Such a pity. Such a waste of my time. I'm just really counting the days down till Wednesday.

Yesterday Damien arrived in Malaysia and surprised Ann. Hehe what a turn of events! Apparently she was really happy and a little confused initially. I miss out on all this shite, man, this is why I should be living in Vista. I asked my mum this morning whether I can move there or not beginning of next year but obviously she said no. It would be great if they choose to move somewhere super far away so I can move in with Ann, Lisa and Shien Yee. Would be living up the uni life. It doesn't really matter if I can't though, because I can always live it up in uni overseas. If I go over somewhere totally radical. I really want to go to Europe.

Saw some pretty awesome houses around. There was this place that had a really westernized suburb-y feel to it. Really cool. Also had shop lots right opposite the road to it. And a Giant down the road... How convenient and cozy. There was this other house which was super awesome; there was this extension on the first floor, where a gym was encased in glass, glass and more glass. Another house had this main wing connected to a glassy circular room by a corridor. It's something like out of one of my dreams. I dreamed about this really awesome circular room. I don't really know whether it had a purpose or whatever, but it's a cool concept. What else is a cool concept would definitely be Balinese Homes. It is just sooo beautiful. You know what you should do in your free time? You could totally read an Interior Design magazine and be absolutely inspired and really just long to kind of have that kind of house.

I have it all planned out in my head:

  1. A wooden kind of sofa-bed thing out on the field, where you can remove the drapes to view the stars... Next to the poolside (yes I have probably really unrealistic goals) where is glistening in the moonlight.
  2. The entrance will have a Koi Pond and you have to walk over it, with these little wooden steps. There'll be mirrors set in black marble lining the walls, so it seems as if the pool is on the walls too. At the end of the corridor will be this freaking cool statue with two chairs on the side of it. And after that you can walk either left or right to the living room area. Or something.
  3. I haven't come up with anything else, haha, those are the two things that I'm really set on. Also would like a house that was kind of winding and like a maze. I don't know why. But I like something creative and innovative. I want to be an interior designer now... why am I even doing medicine?!
No i'm joking. Medicine rocks. I love reading about the esophageal hiatus, which is where the esophagus pierces the diaphragm. And then it meets the stomach at the cardiac orifice, which is surrounded by the cardiac sphincter.

I wish I was being sarcastic...

And now I have to go study and finish week 10 and week 11 because I never managed to finish it last night. Slept for a freaking 11 hours or 12 hours or something to that ridiculous extent.

Happy Father's Day!

Saturday, June 19, 2010

oh dear me.

I have seriously spent way too long editing this thing.

It's time for me to sleep.

Just have to skip over the studying now... Boo!!

You start to forget why you're doing this, when you're surrounded with words that rhyme with Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Longest day ever

Longest Day Ever

I may be exaggerating the title a little bit. It's just that I spent such a freaking long time driving around again! At 3pm, I left the house to go pick up Owen and his friend.

1. I made the wrong turning (because my dad gave really misleading directions, if BU condo is on your left, it still will be on my left if I turn up the hill) and went down this horribly long long long (kind of good for racing I suppose) road and ended up at this dead end, opposite the Police Station BU.

2. Turned in prematurely to the Golf part of The Club. Please note, the whole time I was driving Owen hadn't been picking up any of my calls, despite me having to had picked him up at 2:30pm. So yeah, I was supposedly late. But he wasn't picking up his phone and I wasn't going to sit around in a stuffy ass house twiddling my thumbs.

3. Asked a guard where to go, and he seemingly pointed at another dead end. Really. Well, turns out that was an invisible-ish turning near the dead end. So I turned in there.

4. Another guard gave me the cockiest stare in the world the whole time, and then I parked the car and tried calling Owen multiple times. Locked the car and went to the cocky eye guard to ask him where the Paintball place is. He told me to move my car.

5. I told him that I'm just waiting for someone. Language barrier because I couldn't understand what exactly he was getting at. Well he let me stay in the end, and when I went to where he

was standing, I asked whether I could turn in there (the place he was blocking) and park there to go look for him.

6. He said no. So I drove down to the basement and parked there. Such a waste of my life, really. Then I parked, and tried to find my way to the paintball place.

7. Asked the receptionist where Canyon Paintball is. First lady has no clue; does she even speak English/Mandarin/Malay/Tamil?! Second lady tells me to walk straight, go up the stairs and it's there. She lied too.

8. Owen finally called when I was somewhere near the badminton and tennis courts and ran out to find me. After yelling at him for the whole time, we went back to my car and drove to the paintball place.

9. OMG I swear my car tyres were squealing for mercy. The rocks were mean and I swear I later drove over something that went CREACAACCKKKAY. Which was not good, at all. I think Visa's shoes are still in my car... holy shit ew.

10. Waited SOME MORE for him to pack up, Aswan had sexy hair. And he really strangely resembled a penguin. I'm not kidding, especially all dressed up in his paintball gear.

11. Got home, and Owen was going to come to McD for me and Dad was going to pick him up there. And after he showered and everything, we called Dad to tell him to pick up Owen from McD, but turns out he was only 5 minutes away. So I waited for no good reason... Well, that is kind of my fault for not calling him earlier. But, still!

12. Went to McD, iPod died 10 minutes into studying.

Also, I finally got this long-awaited text from Ben. Apparently he got into a drunken fight yesterday, and THAT GUY BIT OFF LIKE HALF OF HIS EAR. HOW COOL IS THAT? Well I wish that was what could've happened. Maybe he has the powers to grow back his ear. Ahaha. But they did fight, and it was pretty bad. Mm.

Elastic cartilage can only be found on the external ear and the epiglottis.

The epiglottis is retroverted during deglutition and I still have no idea what cricoid, arytenoid, corniculate and cuneiform even mean. Just read and memorize. I just googled 'cuneiform'... I'm starting to think it isn't even really an anatomical word. That's the thing with NKM's lectures. You never know whether it's a typo or it's a real word (and also whether it's important or not, because it's in such small fonts your subconscious turns to overlook it. Has happened so many times, I'm not proud of it.)

Well today I managed to complete week 9 - Urinary System. :) All (HAHAH YEAH RIGHT, ALL MY ASS) I have left to do today would be week 10 - GIT.

Shit.

Nothing else to really say, except I think I'm personality type C.

That's Andrew Chim, he just kind of sat there and shot at Azzy.
That's Azzy and Doug. Azzy is the penguin-like one waddling on the field.

Azzy just kind of let Chim shoot at him. ...

Doug sitting on the ladder. Feel like I'm really stating the obvious like mad.

Haha, this was by accident: Alicia is going to have the Doug in her .
And Azzy said, imagine that sentence without car emoticon. I just thought it was funny cause it sounded like the dog will be in her car. But no, he has to turn it around and upside down...

new look!

Thank you so very much, DancingSheep for this gorgeous HTML! I think it's the cutest ever.
I got it from www.blogskins.com. First time I ever dabbled in something like that, so I feel super nerdy and a little bit motivated to upda
te my blog more often.

Not that anybody really reads it, but you know. For the fun of it. Maybe more people will read it if I asked them to though; just a thought.

Anyway, today I spent the entire day driving. SERIOUSLY.
Well it felt like I spent the entire day driving. I went to pick up Daniel from where he was carrying out his work experience: his mum's office. Got a little bit lost on the way there, went all the way to Jln Universiti instead of where he actually was. Got there in the end, thanks to blind luck! (Okay and directions from Dan). When we got to McD's, we managed to accomplish our goal: to giggle at David, who was carrying out his work experience there. He had on this little McD's cap and everything. TOO CUTE. I managed to capture a picture of him pressing down all the rubbish.

Owen (my younger bro) actually asked me, "Isn't work experience for what you want to do in the future? Does David want to be a McDonald's man then?" Haha I figure that he aspires to be something along the lines of creepy ass clown who looks like he's a serial rapist, aka Ronald McDonald. Really!! I was actually just staring at a picture of Ronald McD on this banner, and I shit you not, he stared back.

After I dropped Daniel back at his office, (we had a really nice chat over lunch), I went back to McD to start studying for my exams, which are on Wednesday. Well, I've got my BS interview on Tuesday, but that's not much of a big deal. BS=Behavioural Science.

I managed to finish Week7 and start a little bit on Week8. Week7 is basically CV. Week8 is Respi. I can NOT believe that when I get around to sem3, CV system will be taking up 5 weeks. Really, is there all that much to learn? Well I suppose there is, since we're going to be responsible for the lives of many many people in the future.

Haha, imagine. Trusting your life with me!! All I could think about was the MNG sale. And that RM1 accessory Suzen got from Forever21. Jealous! Also the Malacca trip, omg that is going to be super ace :)

I was looking for a place to sit, and I saw this white guy sitting on a 6-seater table. So I went up to him, tentatively put my folder on the opposite corner of the tables and was halfway through asking, "Is there anyone sitting here?"
Which, for some strange reason, is what usually many people ask in Malaysia. (Or maybe just me, but I've got half of my money on Malaysia.)
Well then he interrupted me halfway, shook his head and said, "No." So i was like "Oh, okay," and proceeded to put down my folder fer reals.

Then he was like "No, someone is coming." Unfortunately this clashed with my "Thank you," so I had to ask again, "Is there anyone sitting here?" Then he shook his head again and said, "No, you can't sit there. Someone is sitting there," and pointed at the counter.

I figured that the whole time I was asking that, he must have thought I was asking "Can I sit here?" It's strange, isn't it, how the difference in culture and upbringing can change the way your mind really works.

Was listening to the Naked Scientist eons ago, and they mentioned that a study was conducted on German kids and some other buncha kids. And when they were asked to recall a dance routine showed to them a while ago, they would turn differently. And the thing was that the German kids would spin one way and the other buncha kids would spin the other way. Majority of them anyway. I guess that kind of can infer that culture/upbringing does affect the way you think.

In conclusion, even though I was actually asking "is there anyone sitting there?", his understandable assumption that I was asking, "can I sit there?" is really just because his brain was telling him that it was what I was asking from my gesture, and not from my mouth. I feel like I've gotten myself all confused --

I NEED TO FINISH RESPIRATION NOTES NOW KTHXBYE

p.s this is because if I don't, CK will 'smoke' me as he put it.
PFFT. I can not let this happen. He managed to nitro boost himself all the way to end of week 6 when I was halfway through week 7. I will not succumb to the loss! I am NOT ASSISTANT BATCH REP. My favourite colour is orange.
